Good morning.

The ASX is expected to open higher, following gains in major overseas markets. The SPI200 futures contract was up 17 points, or 0.29 per cent, suggesting a positive start for the S&P/ASX200 benchmark today.

Global markets strengthened overnight following robust economic data from China, with easing tensions in Hong Kong and the approval of a Brexit delay calming growth anxieties.

British PM Boris Johnson has failed to win the approval of enough members of parliament to hold an early election after MPs in the House of Commons approved legislation to delay Brexit.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has said Australia is ‘tranquil’ compared to the chaos enveloping Britain.
