Good morning.

Here’s everything you need to know in Australia and beyond to kick off your week:

Markets: The Australian share market is expected to open slightly higher.

The SPI200 futures contract was up 8 points, or 0.12 per cent, at 6,565.0 at 0700 AEST, suggesting a positive start for the benchmark S&P/ASX200 on Monday.

Wall Street finished lower on Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.07 per cent, the S&P 500 down 0.16 per cent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite down 0.52 per cent.

The Aussie dollar is buying 68.75 US cents from 69.02 US cents on Friday.

The tax cuts promised by Prime Minister Scott Morrison would make gender inequality between what men and women earn worse, according to The Australia Institute.

The later stages, which offer the biggest benefits to top earners, would give men $2 worth of tax cuts to every $1 women get.

Another residential building disaster in Sydney: Mascot Towers was vacated on Friday night after engineers became increasingly concerned about cracks in the primary support structure and facade masonry.

Roughly half the residents of a Sydney apartment complex, which was evacuated after cracks appeared, will not even be able to return home to collect personal items for at least a week.

Around the world

G20 energy ministers have banded together to underscore the importance of energy security in a communique issued at the end of the conference, just days after two tankers were attacked near the Strait of Hormuz.

“In light of recent developments highlighting concerns about energy security, the G20 Energy Ministers acknowledge energy security as one of the guiding principles for the transformation of energy systems,” the communique said.

How independent is the US Federal Reserve from politics really? Former Federal Reserve vice chairman Stanley Fischer predicted that if US President Donald Trump was re-elected, he would not renominate Jerome Powell for another term as the US central bank’s chairman.

Childcare is costing Aussies top dollar – more than private schools. It costs some Aussie parents more to send their children to childcare than it is to enrol them in some of the country’s most prestigious private schools.

Scam alert: Aussies have been warned against buying fake iPhones online after two South Australians were duped into doing so earlier this week. Check out how convincing the copy looks.

And: you don’t have to pay more for utilities just because it’s winter. Here are five surprising ways to save money on your winter energy bills.

Have a great morning.
