Scam alert: Aussies are being duped into buying fake iPhones
Aussies have been warned against buying fake iPhones online, after two South Australians were duped into doing so earlier this week.
According to 7News, the pair reportedly bought fake iPhone XS Maxs online, which normally retails for around $1,800.
Here’s the convincing copy:
The duo met the seller in person and inspected the iPhones, but the copies were ‘very convincing’.
They proceeded to pay cash for the phones, and later discovered they couldn’t connect to the Apple store of the phone’s trusted settings.
The victims told police the phones were sold with all the usual attachments, including Apple’s signature headphones and charging cables.
Police have urged Aussies to buy phones from authorised sellers only.
“These items don't come with any warranty or guarantee,” they said.
“If you are going to pay hundreds or even a thousand dollars for a mobile phone, purchase it from an authorised seller.”
