Centrelink warns of Easter payment changes

Centrelink recipients are being reminded about upcoming closures over the Easter public holidays, which may change their reporting dates.

Services Australia said its service and call centres would be closed for all public holidays on Good Friday, April 7 and Easter Monday, April 10, as well as Anzac Day on Tuesday, April 25.

“You’ll still be able to access myGov, Express Plus mobile app and phone self-service, but your reporting and payment days may change,” Services Australia said.

Centrelink recipients may need to report their income early so Services Australia can pay them during the closure. These recipients may be paid early.

Recipients can still use their Centrelink online account through myGov during the closures to do any of the following:

  • Report income

  • View reporting dates for the next 12 weeks

  • Change some appointments

  • Apply for an advance payment

  • Request documents

“You can still report your income to us, even when we’re closed. However, if you do this on a public holiday, we’ll pay you after the public holiday,” Services Australia said.

If you choose to report your income early, you’ll need to include what you expect to be paid for your full period. If you make a mistake, you can correct your report within 14 days, or when you next report.

If you reported your income after the assessment period, Services Australia said it would pay you after you reported.

“You may want to do this so you can be sure of your employment income or changes to your circumstances,” Services Australia said.

A number of Aussie retailers - including supermarkets Coles, Woolworths and Aldi and stores like Kmart and Bunnings - will be closed on the Good Friday public holiday. To help plan ahead, see our full guide on Easter trading hours.
