Aldi Australia is fast catching up to the market share of Coles and Woolworths, courtesy of its public image as the best supermarket for low prices.
Not only did recent research find the German challenger would break the formidable duopoly in ten years' time, it found Australians had an "emotional connection" to Aldi that its local rivals simply can't match.
Loyal Aldi followers line up outside the store each Wednesday and Saturday morning to nab the one-off "Special Buys" homewares. The "Super Saver" groceries are also popular, even though the discounts, in terms of percentage off, aren't as good as Coles and Woolworths' weekly half-price deals.
