Good morning.

Markets: The SPI200 futures is suggesting the ASX will open 0.7 per cent higher this morning. Oil prices went up and gold went down overnight. Wall St had a great time overnight, with the Dow Jones heading north 0.84 per cent, the S&P500 up 0.89 per cent and the NASDAQ rising an impressive 0.97 per cent.

Aussie dollar: The Australian dollar is buying 68.94 US cents at 8:05am Sydney time, slightly down from 69.13 US cents on Thursday.

The passing of a beloved leader: The federal election campaign has come to a sobering conclusion with last night's death of former prime minister Bob Hawke. The man who, along with treasurer Paul Keating, modernised Australia's economy to prepare it for decades of prosperity, was popular in office as well as in retirement.
