Thousands of Aussie workers left their jobs during the ‘Great Resignation’, but some companies have managed to maintain staff loyalty.

Aussie steelmaking company BlueScope has the best staff-retention rates, according to LinkedIn data analysed by resume.io, with employees typically staying at the company for nearly a decade.

Qantas had the second-highest average tenure, with staff of the Aussie airline staying in their jobs for 8.6 years, on average.

Resource company Alumina Limited came in third place, with an average retention rate of 8.5 years, ahead of supply-chain logistics company Brambles, where staff stayed for 8.4 years, on average.

But not every Aussie worker is keen to stay in their jobs. Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics found job mobility was still at a 10-year year high.

About 1.3 million workers - or 9.5 per cent of employed people - changed jobs in the year to February 2023. Meanwhile, a recent LinkedIn survey found 59 per cent of workers were thinking about changing jobs in 2023.

Mining and engineering firms accounted for eight of the 10 lowest average tenures among the 100 largest companies in Australia, with battery minerals company Liontown Resources holding onto staff for just over six months.

Tech company Atlassian had the second-worst retention rate at 1.1 years, on average, followed by NOVONIX with 1.2 years, on average.
