From a 'happiness allowance' to 'big life' leave: The unusual perks in Australia's top workplaces
Judo Bank, Commonwealth Bank and NAB were named Australia’s top companies to work for.
Extra annual leave, flexible work and banking discounts are just some of the perks on offer from Australia’s best businesses to work for.
LinkedIn’s latest Top Companies list named Judo Bank, Commonwealth Bank and NAB the top three companies to work for in 2023, based on a range of factors.
Judo Bank - a small, Melbourne-based bank that is well-known for its term-deposit offerings - gives staff perks like two weeks of extra annual leave, ‘big life’ event leave for an important day like getting married, the birth of a grandchild or moving house, and a yearly ‘happiness allowance’ to spend on their health, family, charity or whatever else brings them joy.

The Aussie bank also offers flexible work, with staff asked to come into the office 50 per cent of the time. It also has a discounted Judo Staff home loan.
“As a purpose-led challenger bank, we believe deeply that our culture is what defines our success. We’re incredibly proud of the unique culture we’ve built at Judo and the significant growth we’ve achieved in our short history,” Judo Bank chief people and culture officer Jessica Lantieri said.
Commonwealth Bank and NAB rounded out the top three. Both of the major banks offer staff extra leave options - with CommBank offering three days of ‘life leave’ per year and NAB offering an extra week of ‘You Leave’. Both banks also offer discounted banking and financial products and flexible working arrangements.
Top companies in 2023
LinkedIn’s annual list ranks companies based on factors like skills growth, structure and stability, staff retention rate, attrition and recruitment, and the diversity of genders and educational backgrounds employed.
LinkedIn managing director Matt Tindale noted Aussie businesses rounded up the top three places this year.
“All three companies were also in the banking and finance sector, which has seen notable growth in the last 12 months, taking up six out of 25 spots on this year's list,” Tindale said.
“Other strong industries include software development, technology, and consulting, opening new doors for those looking to reskill or transition their careers in 2023 and beyond."
