Fake $50 notes have been making the rounds. Can you guess which one is real?
A Shell petrol station in Chinderah Bay near Tweed Heads has sparked a heated debate online after it found a customer had paid with a fake $50 note.
The petrol station posted an image of both a real $50 note and the fake next to each other and encouraged people to guess which was which.
After a few days, the business revealed which note was legitimate and which was counterfeit.

The commenters were evenly split over which note was the fake, but can you tell the difference?
People in the comments were shocked by the results - which will be posted below - with both notes appearing to be real.
“Be wary as there are fake notes in circulation - we had one come through this weekend,” the business said.
“Incredibly, they have replicated the window and the seven point star on the bottom left of the window. The only thing they couldn’t replicate is the ultra violet serial number ... it doesn’t light up under a blue light.”
Aussies warned over rise in counterfeit notes
Police in the Northern Territory were provided with a counterfeit $50 notes by a local business in Darwin back in July, but warned fake money had been making the rounds in other states too.
“Police are urging everyone to be vigilant of counterfeit money being distributed. Police are asking anyone who has received counterfeit money to immediately make contact,” the NT Police said.

How to spot counterfeit money
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) said anyone was within their rights to refuse to accept a bank note if they had concerns about it.
The RBA said it could be helpful to compare a suspect banknote with one you knew was genuine and to look for differences.
