As one of Britain’s best-loved singers, Sir Elton John is hardly a Marmite figure — but the famously divisive spread brand is honouring him with a commemorative jar.

Marmite has produced a special container in the shape of a pyramid to mark the stage the performer will grace at Glastonbury on Sunday night.

With only four jars in existence, one of them is up for public Ebay auction to raise funds for the Elton John Aids Foundation.

Georgina Bradford, of Marmite producers Unilever, said: “In celebration of our ongoing support for Elton John Aids Foundation, we saw no better opportunity than to honour these two British icons on the grand stage of Glastonbury, our nation’s legendary music festival.”

She added that each handcrafted jar took more than 48 hours to fabricate using a 1,200 degree glass cast, which was moulded, cooled and cured under a UV light. The moulds were then stained with colour-matched glass resin and placed in an oven to cure.

“Marmite Pyramid surpasses anything we have ever created. Handmade by a team of talented creators from the LGBTQ+ community, the jar exudes a uniqueness that we know Marmite and Elton fans will adore,” she said.

“There is no denying the significance of this extraordinary jar, which we hope will generate vital funds for this important cause.”

Unilever has valued the jars at £6,300. although it is hoped the bidding process will exceed this total.

One other jar will be kept at Marmite’s factory, with another given to Elton John, and the third presented to Glastonbury. Previously, customers were able to but a Rocketman jar in Sainsbury’s last year, and £40,500 was raised and donated to Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Bidding for the pyramid jar will commence on Ebay on Thursday, at 7pm, and will remain open for seven days.

Arctic Monkeys and Guns ‘N Roses will also headline Glastonbury Festival, which begins this week.
