ANZ outage leaves thousands of customers unable to access money: ‘Absolutely ridiculous’

The outage prevented some customers from accessing the ANZ app and internet banking.

ANZ banking services are coming back online after a major outage left thousands of customers locked out of their accounts.

The major bank confirmed that a "technology issue relating to a third party vendor" was the source of the outage.

This stopped some customers from accessing systems including the ANZ App, Internet Banking and ANZ Transactive Global for nearly three hours.

Thousands of customers began reporting the major bank’s services as down from 11:30am today, according to Downdetector.

Customers have taken also to social media to vent their frustration over the outage, with some saying they were unable to pay for their bills and groceries.

“Haven't been able to access MY OWN money for over an hour now.. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!! I'll be changing banks tomorrow or going to cash only. Not good enough!!” one frustrated customer wrote.

“Oh my goodness, attempting to process payroll. This is unacceptable. My staff is counting on their pay!” another person said.

Other customers said the outage raised concerns over the movement towards a cashless society.
