How to use ChatGPT to score your dream job
ChatGPT can help you score your dream job, if you know how to use it correctly.
Artificial intelligence (AI) technology like ChatGPT has plenty of people wondering about the future but, with the right prompts, AI can make your life a lot easier.
A recent Twitter thread by Austin Belcak from Cultivated Culture explained exactly how you could use ChatGPT to revamp your resume and land your dream job.

What you’ll need
A copy of an up-to-date resume and the job description for the position you are applying for.
“Great resumes are all personalised. ChatGPT can only do that if we feed it the right information,” Belcak said.
Step one: Tailor your resume
Belcak said getting ChatGPT to tailor your resume was the best place to start. Here is the prompt for ChatGPT:
Rewrite my resume and tailor it to the job description below. Here is my resume: [resume]. Here is the job description: [job description].
This step will generate a cover letter for the position, taking the skills and qualifications from your resume and weaving it in with key points from the job description.
Step two: Make optimisations
Belcak said while AI could tailor your resume after the first step, it usually wasn’t the best and would need some adjustments.
“We can easily ask ChatGPT to tweak its rewrite,” Belcak said.
Belcak suggested asking the software to rewrite the resume again to:
Fit on a single page
Place more emphasis on specific experience
Place more importance on measurable outcomes
Step three: Optimise your bullet points
Belcak said after testing resume bullets across thousands of job seekers, the highest-performing formula was:
12-20 words
35 per cent hard/soft skills
35 per cent common words
15 per cent action words
15 per cent measurable metrics
He suggested asking ChatGPT to leverage that exact formula by copying a bullet from your existing resume and using the following prompt:
Rewrite this bullet to be less than 20 words, include keywords for the job description below, include metrics from my resume, and use compelling language.
Resume: [Resume]
Job description: [Job description]
“Don’t just settle for one bullet. Ask ChatGPT to write five, 10 or even 20 versions of the same bullet using the formula above. Mix and match the pieces you like best,” Belcak said.
Step four: Proof and personalise
Belcak said you would want to proofread your finished resume to ensure it was grammatically correct, but also accurate and authentic to your values.
Once you’re happy with the final product you can drop it into a resume template and you’re good to go.
