Following hot on the heels of Woolworths’ 50 per cent off promotion, Coles has announced plans to slash prices on frozen items, makeup and food.

The sale will last from today (Wednesday 29 May) until Tuesday 4 June, with makeup products, cult snacks, home items and frozen foods all on sale.

Available both online and in store, the sale comes just weeks after Woolworths held a huge online sale which saw prices halved on more than 1,000 products.

Some of the best savings include Cold Power Laundry Powder, which is down $8.25 and Sunrice Medium Grain Rice which is also $8 cheaper.

Biozet Laundry Plus Softener Powder is down $11, while Ambi Pur Air & Fabric Mist Prime is down $10.

Cadbury Favourites 320g packets are also reduced by $6.

And Revlon Colorstay Makeup Liquid Foundation is down by $17.47.

Frozen food like Magnum icecreams and dumplings, makeup brands including Maybelline and Garnier are also on sale.

Supermarket wars rage on

This is only the latest volley in the ongoing battle for market share between Coles and Woolworths.

Coles recently began selling “ugly” fruit following a similar move by Woolworths in 2014, in a bid to cut down on waste and offer savings to customers.

The supermarkets are also focusing on the perception of their businesses, and their roles in society with Coles trumpeting its status as the largest corporate employer of Indigenous Australians, and Woolworths announcing a plan to roll-out defibrillators to all stores in the country.

Coles has also set its sights on Costco shoppers, introducing supersized products at lower prices in an attempt to tap into the bulk-buy market at the same time as it introduces new ready-to-eat and cafe style meals in store.
