Yahoo Finance Coles and Woolworths drop price of Christmas ham to cheapest in years
Woolworths has moved to match Coles price of a Christmas ham in a win for Aussie shoppers.
Coles and Woolworths rivalry is paying off for Aussie shoppers looking for a Christmas deal as the cost of living continues to soar.
Coles announced it would be dropping the price of its Single Smoked Beechwood Half-Leg Ham to $8 per kilo this morning, which on a four-kilogram Chrissy day centrepiece would set shoppers back about $32.
The supermarket giant said a leg can serve about 20 people which means that's about $1.50 a serve.
"It’s been a difficult year for Aussies who are continuing to feel the effects of cost-of-living, which is why this Christmas we’ve stepped up our offering with great value on a classic Christmas Day staple," Coles General Manager of Meat, Deli and Seafood Martin Smithson said.
Just hours later, rival Woolworths announced its "lowest price on ham for the Christmas table in 9 years."
The Woolworths Half Leg Ham will also be $8 per kilogram.

"We know that value is more important than ever this year," Woolworths Supermarkets Managing Director, Natalie Davis said. "Ham is the centrepiece of the Christmas table for many Australian families, so we’re excited to lower the price of our award-winning half-leg ham to help budgets go further this year."
Both hams are award winning. Coles taking out the bronze medal at the 2022 Sydney Fine Food Show and Woolworths 2022 Canstar Blue award for best Christmas ham.
