Centrelink cash boost coming for these Aussies

A Centrelink cash boost is coming for students and job seekers.

Aussies on Centrelink will see a $40-per-fortnight increase in their payments from September 20 this year.

The payment rates of some working-age and student payments will see the increase hit their bank accounts next month. This is in addition to the Consumer Price Indexation (CPI) increase on the same date.

However, Services Australia warned some Aussies may not get the full increase in their first payment after September 20.

“You’ll get the increase if you get JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance for job seekers. But not if you’re a single principal carer of a dependent child and have a mutual-obligation-requirements exemption,” Services Australia said.

Eligible Aussies don’t need to do anything to get the payment, with Services Australia saying it will be automatically applied.

Who will get the payment increase?

If you get ABSTUDY Living Allowance you are eligible, except if you’re:

  • A student under 16 in tertiary education

  • A student studying a Masters or Doctorate

  • A Residential Costs Option recipient

You’ll also get the increase if you’re getting Disability Support Pension and you:

  • Are under 21 years of age

  • Have no dependent children

The increase also applies to the following payments:

  • Parenting Payment Partnered

  • Youth Allowance for Students and Australian Apprentices

  • Austudy

  • ABSTUDY Living Allowance

  • Special Benefit

  • Disaster Recovery Allowance

  • New Zealand Disaster Recovery Allowance

  • Farm Household Allowance
