Britain votes to LEAVE the EU

The votes are in, the ballots have been counted and the UK has voted to leave the European Union.

The event had an outstanding turnout, with around 72% of the population turning up to vote.

The last of the votes have been tallied up to reveal that over 17.4 billion of the population have voted for a Brexit result (51.89%), compared with the 16.1 billion people who voted for the UK to remain (48.11%) a part of the EU.

The shock decision has already impacted the pound and global financial markets – the pound has hit its lowest level in 31 years and the ASX has plummeted.
