Boy, 3, dies after tragic shooting at his birthday party

A three-year-old boy has died at his own birthday party after finding a gun that fell out of a relative’s pocket.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, in the US state of Texas, is investigating the death of the three-year-old.

Deputies were called in relation to a welfare check about 4.15pm (local time) on Saturday and upon arriving at the scene they found a toddler with a gunshot wound.

Earlier that day, family and friends had gathered to celebrate the boy’s birthday and while they were playing cards, they heard a gunshot.

The boy was then found with a gunshot wound to the chest, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

He was rushed to a fire station where he died from his injuries.

The investigation uncovered a family member had dropped the pistol from their pocket and then the young boy found it.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of this tragic accident,” the sheriff’s department said in the statement.
