Aussie mums are a savvy bunch – they know all the grocery shop tips and tricks, and have more than a few surefire ways to save money up their sleeves.

But that doesn’t mean they’re invincible: the slip of a finger can literally mean hundreds – or even thousands – of dollars lost, as one mum reflected.

“Just a tip for those people paying bills when you’re in a hurry – the decimal point holds a lot of power!” one woman wrote yesterday in the Mums Who Budget & Save Facebook group.

“Accidentally paid $4467 instead of $44.67 😳🤦🏽‍♀️ thankfully the company was able to swiftly decline receiving the payment. Husband was a little cranky. Lol.”

She invited other mums to share their stories of accidentally paying too much for something, and more than 200 mums had something to say or share.

“I paid around $15k tax to the RTA instead of the ATO 🤦‍♀️😂,” one mother commented, laughing at herself.

Another woman recalled a time when she innocently tried to pay for a meal.

“This reminds me when I paid for a Kebab meal the other week. It was meant to be around $14 but when I put in my pin and hit enter the screen said $143,375.56 😳,” she said.

One woman who was being cheeky with her husband accidentally sent a payment to her husband’s boss instead.

“I paid my husbands boss (Jack) instead of my husband (Jake) with the caption "for sex" 🤦‍♀️,” said one woman.

“Thankfully we are friends outside of work and he thought it was hilarious. Transferred the money to hubby straight away.”

Some mums also shared stories where they were on the other side of the fence processing payments to people that might have raised an eyebrow or two.

“I worked in payroll processing and did a manual payment for an employee, paid them $14000 instead of $1400 🤦🏼‍♀️,” said one woman.

Replying to this, another commented: “I did this and paid the employee 120,000+ [dollars] instead of 1200!!!!”

One woman lamented the way technology often got the better of her.

“I’m known to set up direct debits and then pay them manually as well 🤦‍♀️,” she said.
