Amazon has announced Australians will be the first in the world to access the annual Prime Day sale, with local shoppers to see bargains on Monday July 15.

Prime Day is a big flash sale event held each year for Amazon's subscribers. The event has been held for a few years in the US, but this is the second year Australia is participating.

Amazon Australia announced Tuesday that local deals will appear from 12:01am on Monday July 15, while the rest of the world will join 5pm that day.

Once the worldwide sale is on, Australians will have access to bargains from the US with free delivery.

That period will last 48 hours, which is reportedly 17 hours longer than previous years.

Australian shoppers this year will be fighting for elbow space with bargain hunters from USA, UK, Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, India, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria and the United Arab Emirates.

The sale is only open to Amazon's Prime subscribers, which costs $6.99 a month or $59 per year in Australia. In return, subscribers get benefits like free delivery, streaming service Prime Video, ad-free music, e-books via Prime Reading, and benefits for gamers through Twitch Prime.

The retailer does offer a free 30-day trial subscription that can be used to access the Prime Day sale.

Prime Day last year racked up a record AU$2.16 billion of sales for the US retailer.

Amazon Australia country manager Rocco Braeuniger said Prime Day 2018 was the busiest day since the launch of the local Amazon store in late 2017.
