Nate Allen is one of the many Aussies using Airtasker to earn cash. Allen, who is a treadmill technician, is currently earning about $5,000 a month building basketball hoops, trampolines, gym equipment and bikes through the platform.

“This has been my full-time job for nearly 14 years but, nowadays, Airtasker is my main source of customers,” Allen told Yahoo Finance.

Allen joined Airtasker in 2018 and has now completed more than 1,800 tasks on the platform, and said he liked how flexible the work was.

“It’s flexible and, in Melbourne, there are lots of jobs on there constantly,” he said.

With the cost of living rising, Airtasker co-founder and CEO Tim Fung said there had been more Aussies taking to the platform to earn some extra cash.

“In addition to an increase in people signing up, we’ve also seen that, of those who are signing up, they are more active across the marketplace, making more offers on posted tasks,” Fung told Yahoo Finance.

“When comparing Q1 '22 to Q2 '23, we’ve seen a 22.5 per cent increase in the amount of offers being made per Tasker.”

Removalists were the most in-demand last month, with 93 per cent more tasks than any other category on the platform. Categories like painting and gardening also experienced a 111 per cent increase, with homeowners looking for cost-effective ways to refresh their homes in the face of rising interest rates.
