6 easy ways to earn Velocity frequent flyer points
Aussies can earn Virgin Velocity points by simply doing their everyday spending.
From grocery shopping, to filling up the car, there are a ton of ways savvy Aussies can earn frequent flyer points through their day-to-day spending.
Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO Nick Rohrlach is encouraging the 11 million Aussies signed up for the program to do their research.
“We have a lot of partners, and chances are there is a way to earn points with money you are already spending,” Rohrlach told Yahoo Finance.

“For example, picking the right supermarkets, credit cards that earn points and even using the Velocity e-store to buy Apple products.”
There had been a lot more interest in the program over the past couple of years, Rohrlach said, as Aussies emerged from COVID and looked for ways to stretch their dollar further.
If you’re looking to get points-savvy, we’ve rounded up six easy ways to earn Velocity points through purchases you’re probably already making.
1. Grocery shopping
One of Velocity’s best-known partnerships is with Flybuys. Customers are able to transfer 1,000 Flybuys points for 500 Velocity points.
That means you can earn points by simply shopping at Coles, as well as other partner retailers like Kmart, Officeworks, Bunnings, Liquorland and First Choice Liquor. These stores all earn you 1 Flybuys point per $1 spent.
2. Filling up the car
You can also earn Flybuys points when you fill up your car at a Shell Coles Express and will earn 1 Flybuys point per $2 spent.
You can earn Velocity points directly at 7-Eleven. At the moment, you can earn 250 bonus points when you download the My 7-Eleven app, link your Velocity account and scan in store. You can currently get 2 points per litre on premium fuel and 1 point per litre on regular fuel.
3. Catching a lift with Ola
If you need to catch a lift, you can get 1 point per $1 spent on everyday Ola rides, and 2 points per $1 spent on eligible rides to and from selected airports.
There are more points to be had if you’re a Silver, Gold or Platinum Velocity member. Plus, if you’re a new Ola customer, you can earn 1,000 bonus points on your first ride.
4. Points-earning credit cards
There are a ton of credit cards that allow you to earn Velocity points directly, including from Virgin Money, American Express, Westpac and BOQ Specialist.
Some credit cards also let you transfer your credit card rewards points into Velocity points, but it’s a good idea to check the transfer rate that applies.
5. Banking and insurance products
While you shouldn’t take out a home loan or insurance based on points alone, if the product does suit your needs, you could also earn some extra points this way.
For instance, major health insurer Medibank offers bonus points for people who sign up for a policy, while insurer Cover More offers points for money spent on their travel insurance policies.
6.Shopping the Velocity eStore
Another easy way to earn points is through the Velocity e-Store, where you can shop at a range of retailers like Chemist Warehouse, David Jones, Myer, The Iconic, Petbarn, Menulog and Apple, and earn points for every dollar spent.
If you’re a wine drinker, there are also the Virgin Wines and Velocity Wine Store, which both earn you at least two points per $1 spent.
