- We tried getting a $25 wash and blow dry from our local TAFE. With the nation in the grips of a cost of living crisis, we're constantly looking for more ways to save cash on everyday necessities. One place you may have never considered to get your hair done at is your local TAFE. When we heard you could get haircuts from just $5 or even a full head of foils for just $50, we were genuinely curious about the process, considering how cheap it was.

Whilst not every TAFE offers every service, you can choose from a range of things to get done at just a fraction of the cost. Here's how it works. You can call your local TAFE to find out exactly what they offer and what classes they currently have running. This will determine what you can and can't get done.

Obviously, school runs between Monday to Friday. So you need to be available then. And because they're students, it may require a little bit more time than you'd usually dedicate. But if you're fine with all of this, it's a really pleasant experience overall. The students are professional. The salon was as you'd expect any time you visit the hairdresser. And I was, overall, very happy with my result. Would you try it?
