Spanish scientists take red-hot lava samples

Scientists took samples of red-hot lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano in Spain on Wednesday (October 20).

One of the samples reached 2,102 degrees Fahrenheit.

That's according to Spain's Geological and Mining Institute.

Scientists checked the thickness of the semi-molten sample and cooled it off with water so they could complete the test.

The volcano on the Spanish island La Palma first erupted last month.

More than 6,000 people have had to leave their homes, while lava has covered more than 2000 acres of land.

It has also destroyed 2,000 buildings and many banana plantations.
