Pilgrims hold socially distanced Ramadan prayers in Mecca

The central courtyard of the Great Mosque of Mecca, housing the famed Kaaba, saw worshippers, their face masks on, standing apart in much smaller numbers than the millions of people of the past.

Some hundreds of worshippers walked around the Kaaba or sat in prayer.

Normally at its busiest during Hajj, the courtyard housing the Kaaba is open all year round for other pilgrimages meaning it is almost never empty.
