Amazon in talks to buy "Bond" studio MGM - report

It's the studio behind the James Bond movies and other legendary films.

But now MGM could be up for sale.

And Amazon could be the buyer.

That's according to reports by The Information, which cited a source familiar with the matter.

MGM also owns the Epix cable channel, and makes popular TV shows including The Handmaid's Tale and Fargo.

Amazon declined to comment on the report, saying it doesn't discuss rumors or speculation.

In December, Reuters reported that MGM was exploring a sale.

The report said it had tapped investment banks Morgan Stanley and LionTree to help, and had started a formal sale process.

Now the latest news comes hours after AT&T said it would combine its WarnerMedia business with Discovery.

That creates a big new player in streaming video, and puts rivals under pressure to bulk up.

Some analysts had seen NBCUniversal as a possible buyer for MGM as the industry reshapes.
