Elon Musk has jetted into Beijing for a surprise visit as Tesla grapples with a global slowdown in electric car sales and cutthroat competition from cheaper Chinese rivals.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk paid a visit to top Chinese officials on Sunday to push for the electric vehicle maker’s Full Self-Driving technology. Musk posted a photo on Sunday of himself sitting with China’s Premier Li Qiang, saying the two had known each other for many years. The surprise visit comes less than a week after Tesla’s disappointing earnings report, and Musk even postponed a planned trip to India because of his “very heavy Tesla obligations.”
