Woolworths shopper’s ‘disgusting’ find in online grocery order

The customer was offered a refund but says the supermarket giant needs to make sure items are up to standard.

An Aussie mum has called out Woolworths after making an unpleasant discovery in her online shopping order.

Geelong customer Beth said she was “disgusted” after discovering her favourite Frico Maasdam Holland cheese had arrived covered in mould.

“I order all my shopping online because it's easier, I don't drive and I have small children,” Beth told Yahoo Finance.

“Over the last six years, I have learned I cannot order any fresh produce as it gets squashed or arrives mouldy. That I could deal with although it made me a little annoyed. This week, I ordered my favourite cheese and … I'm disgusted.”

After contacting Woolworths, Beth said she was offered a $6.50 refund for the item. But she thinks this isn’t good enough and has called on the supermarket to do more to make sure items are up to standard.

Responding to her complaint, Woolworths said: “We apologise for this poor experience. We have seen the attached images of the mouldy cheese and this is unacceptable.”

A Woolworths spokesperson told Yahoo Finance they took food safety “very seriously” and were “disappointed” to see the customer’s report.

“We have been speaking to this customer directly and have passed the feedback on to our personal shoppers,” the spokesperson said.

Customers are being encouraged to contact the Woolworths contact centre or visit a service desk if they have any concerns with a product.

It’s not the first time a Woolies shopper has made an unpleasant discovery with their food. Just yesterday, another customer shared that he was eating his lunch when he discovered an insect was in his mixed salad from the supermarket.
