More than 100,000 Woolworths employees will receive $750 in shares as a "thank you" from the company.
The part- and full-time staffers will be able to keep or sell the shares in the future, Woolworths Group announced on Tuesday, provided they have worked at the company from at least 1 March 2020 and are not already participating in Woolworths’ short-term incentive schemes.
Part-time workers will receive the shares on a pro-rata basis.
“The awarding of shares is not only recognition for our team's efforts over the last year, but also acknowledgement that our team has a critical role to play going forward as we all adjust to the new normal,” Woolworths Group chief executive Brad Banducci said.
“Today’s recognition announcement has been carefully considered by our board and group leadership to enable us to extend recognition to as many of our team as possible.”
Eligible full-time and part-time workers will also receive $250 in credits to spend at Woolworths, BIG W and BWS, while eligible casual staff will receive $100.
Casual workers who joined the company after March will be able to use their staff discount until the end of the year, regardless of whether they are still working for Woolworths.
It comes after Coles staff received bonuses of up to $750 in mid-May, also as a thank you.
