Woolworths, Coles slash seafood prices, reveal Easter savings

The two supermarkets have dropped the prices on a range of items ahead of Easter celebrations.

Coles and Woolworths have revealed their Easter savings for customers, with the supermarket giants slashing the price of seafood and other festive staples.

Coles is expecting to sell more than 500,000 kilos of fresh seafood to Aussies this Easter and says cooked prawns are the top pick for the holiday, making up half of that amount, followed by salmon, lobsters and oysters.

The supermarket has slashed the price of its raw banana prawns to $15 per kilo, down from $20 per kilo. It’s also dropped the price of its WA rock lobsters to $22 each, down from $27 each.

Rival Woolworths has left the price of its green banana prawns at $20 per kilo, but other seafood savings are on offer on tiger prawns and fish.

Woolworths’ fresh cooked tiger prawns in NSW and QLD are now $30 per kilo, down from $34 per kilo, while thawed cooked tiger XL prawns in VIC are $28 per kilo, down from $36 per kilo.

“We know that seafood is a centrepiece of celebrations at Easter, and we want to offer great value to our customers as they begin planning for the long weekend,” Woolworths chief commercial officer Paul Harker said.

Coles said it was offering savings across a number of family favourites this Easter.

“We know customers are looking to shop more specials this Easter, and that’s why we’re committed to providing value on a great selection of products to help customers have a memorable holiday season,” executive general manager for fresh Andy Mossop said.

The average Aussie is expected to fork out $852 each this year, the Australian Retailers Association found, including on travel, DIY projects and Easter food and chocolate.
