Woman makes $560 in 3 minutes: ‘I never do stuff like this’

Motorists have claimed back an average of $362 through the NSW toll-relief rebate.

A Sydney woman has shared the easy way she received $560 from “doing nothing”, and others are being urged to grab the cashback too.

Llani Belle issued a “public service announcement” online this week, urging motorists to check if they could claim the NSW government’s toll-relief rebate.

“One of my friends just told me to claim my rebate for my tolls. I never do stuff like this because I hate wasting time and I just can’t be f***ed,” Belle said.

“But I did it. It took three minutes and I just got $560 back from doing nothing other than driving through tolls, which you do literally every second of every day when you live in Sydney.”

Under the scheme, eligible NSW motorists can claim a 40 per cent rebate on tolls, up to a maximum of $1,552.

The scheme is set to be phased out from mid this year and replaced by a new $60-per-week toll cap, so the NSW government has also urged eligible drivers to submit their claims via Service NSW while they can.

Belle’s video has now gained more than 200,000 views, and many people have thanked her for the tip and shared how much they’ve claimed back.

“$741!!! Thankyou so much girl!!” one person wrote.

“Thanks so much for this info! I claimed 400 dollars,” another said.

Motorists have submitted more than 460,700 claims under the scheme, with $362, on average, paid out for each claim. It applies to NSW residents only, with no similar scheme available in Victoria or Queensland.

How to claim the toll rebate

Eligible NSW motorists can claim the toll rebate through Service NSW. You can claim once a quarter and up to one year after the financial year ends.

You’ll need to link your toll account to your MyServiceNSW account. When you do this, you’ll also be able to check your toll spend and see when you’re able to claim rebates.

Once your claim has been approved, you’ll receive your payment within three to eight business days.

Who is eligible for the toll rebate?

NSW residents who spend $402 or more on eligible tolls in the 2023-24 financial year are eligible for the 40 per cent rebate, up to $802.

You can also claim if you spent $375 or more on eligible tolls in the 2022-23 financial year, up to a maximum rebate of $750.

Claims for the 2023-24 financial year close on June 30, 2025, while claims for the 2022-23 financial year close on June 30, 2024.

What is the new toll scheme?

The NSW government introduced a new $60 weekly toll cap from January 1, 2024. Claims will open from April 2024 and can be made once a quarter.

Eligible motorists will automatically start accruing for the new scheme and will be able to claim a rebate of up to $340 if they spend more than $60 a week on tolls.

The $60 toll-relief cap will be available for the 2024 and 2025 calendar years. Eligible motorists can also continue to claim the 40 per cent toll-relief rebate for money spent on tolls up to June 30, 2024.
