Why is everyone joking about Ohio on TikTok?

It’s Ohio versus the world! This hilarious meme places Ohio at the center of a world conspiracy.

People on TikTok are sharing funny clips about the baffling things that only happen in Ohio. A lot of the clips are fake or unrelated to Ohio, so it’s more about capturing the silliness behind the meme than documenting Ohio’s history.

The hashtag currently has over 686 million views on TikTok. But the joke started back in 2016 on Tumblr. The Tumblr user @screenshotsofdespair posted a photo of a digital screen display at a bus stop that read, “Ohio will be eliminated.”

The post has since gotten more than 107,900 likes and reblogs, thus sparking the conspiracy theory that Ohio is plotting to take over the world and alluding to why so many bizarre things happen there.

“Only in Ohio,” @lukes.coasters said in a TikTok.

The footage showed an amusement park ride that flung people erratically in the air. People walked by as if nothing was happening.

“Can’t even drive to Walmart in Ohio bruh,” @happyscott_ captioned a video of a rhino running through the highway.

“Can’t even take the train in Ohio,” @haydenblyons said in a video.

The edited footage showed a train driving down a train cart for a surreal effect.

“I tried playing pokemon go in Ohio,” @bidoofan wrote in the video text.
