‘Is there any way back?’ Former newsreader finds himself homeless

John Lloyd Green is a former newsreader that once reported on homeless issues. Now he is having to live the life of the homeless himself.

Green has filed many stories in his time as a journalist about the experience those without a roof over their heads.

However, the former newsreader is now living in a car and on $12 a day.

“I was doing a job that seemed to be so envious in everybody else’s eyes,” Green told 7 News.

Mr Green is enjoying million-dollar views, without the real estate price tag. However, Green didn't exactly choose the simpler life.

Falling out of work, failed relationships and family sacrifices made him re-think his living arrangements.

Unlike many others he shares the park with after hours, he's now working part-time as a bus driver.

According to the City of Sydney, almost 400 people were sleeping on the streets in August last year.

"There are a lot more people doing this (being homeless) than people imagine,” said Green.

He is now writing poems and songs inspired by his nomadic lifestyle.

"You can be a lot of things and still enjoy this harbour as much as anybody,” said Green, who is keeping the hope that one day his luck will improve.
