Put down the curling iron. Not only is it extremely damaging to your hair, but most of the time, irons create curls that are too tight and don’t lift hair from the root — often resulting in a flat or dated look. OK, yes, using a round brush to create curls takes practice. However, the 3D Bomb Curl Hair Brush recently went viral on TikTok when one NYC hairstylist showed how easy it is to use — and the brush costs about $10 on Amazon.

TikToker and hairstylist @mattloveshair was surprised to see just how well the brush works in his first video trying it out. “Oh my ding dang, this gives round brush a whole new meaning!” he captioned his post, which received over 2.5 million views.
In Matt’s second video using the brush, he showed what it looks like to use it to curl all of his hair. “Pros = maximum curls for bounciness. Cons = not enough tension for maximum smoothness,” he added.
The 3D Bomb Curl Hair Brush has a unique spherical shape. Simply brush your hair and twist it while you dry to create easy curls. The brush is plastic and hollow, which allows air to flow through it as you dry your hair. (Solid metal brushes can get too hot and damage hair more easily.) The more you twist your hair, the tighter the curls and vice versa.
While this brush may be easier to curl hair, as Matt said, it doesn’t give hair the same smoothness a traditional round brush might give you. You can try to combat this by using a heat protectant before and a hair oil after.
