US to reopen its borders to vaccinated travellers from UK and EU

Fully vaccinated UK travellers will soon be able to visit the United States following an 18-month travel ban.

White House deputy press secretary Kevin Munoz announced that the new US travel policy will launch on November 8.

It also applies to those travelilng from the European Union.

“This announcement and date applies to both international air travel and land travel. This policy is guided by public health, stringent, and consistent,” Mr Munoz said on Twitter.

Fears were raised that the lifting of the ban would need to be pushed back due to the number of US government departments and agencies involved.

Last month, the White House said it planned to remove the ban but did not specify a date meaning people were unable to make any firm travel plans.

It was implemented by the Trump administration through a presidential proclamation because of the pandemic.

President Joe Biden’s administration renewed the ban caused great difficulties for the travel industry, businesses and people waiting to visit relatives across the Atlantic.
