UK Records 111 More Coronavirus-Related Deaths In 24 Hours As Lockdown Eases Further

The number of people who have died in the UK after testing positive forcoronavirus has risen to 39,045 – an increase of 111 over 24 hours.
Since the end of April, the government’s daily announcement has included people in care homes and the community, rather than just in hospital, who have died.
But only those who had tested positive for Covid-19 are included, meaning anyone who died with a suspected case won’t be recorded.
The figures cover the period up to 5pm on Sunday and may be artificially lowered due to the weekend slump – deaths at weekends take longer to filter through to statisticians due to reduced staffing at various levels.
It comes after the number of people who have died in hospitals across the UK, as well as care homes in Wales, rose by 108 in England, one in Scotland, five in Wales and one in Northern Ireland. That adds up to 115 because the different nations record figures for slightly different daily windows and with slightly different verification processes.

Meanwhile, in the 24 hours up to 9am on Monday, 128,437 tests were carried out – the number of people who received them has again not been disclosed – and the government claims it has a capacity of 206,444 tests a day.
