Got some old IKEA furniture lying around? Or do you feel like it’s time to update your style?

From April 7-21 you can bring back your pre-loved IKEA furniture through its buy-back service and IKEA will match your refund to donate to its charity partner RizeUp.

RizeUp is an Australian community-driven not for profit that provides practical support for families affected by domestic and family violence.

“With our buy-back and resell service it’s never been easier to re-use, recycle and reduce,” IKEA said.

How does the buy back work?

Those looking to trade-in their pre-loved furniture will need to fill out a form online to get a quote.

The furniture can then be taken to the nearest IKEA store, where an IKEA worker will check its condition and confirm the final price.

IKEA said, depending on the condition, customers could get as much as 50 per cent of the original value back.

In return for your items, you’ll get IKEA credit to spend on something you need or love in store.

In 2019, IKEA gave 47 million recovered products a second life.

What is RizeUp?

RizeUp helps those fleeing from domestic violence situations by helping them furnish their new accomodation with everything they need to make it a home.

“The RizeUp mission is to drive awareness of domestic and family violence within society by generating life-changing, practical support for the families affected, giving them the hope and empowerment to move on to a life free from violence,” the organisation said.

“A family fleeing from a violent household will often enter a refuge with nothing but the clothes on their backs. We have created various programs to support and empower these courageous families via specialist domestic and family violence organisations.”
