Try these 5 kid-friendly 4th of July crafts and activities for some explosive fun

Celebrate all things red, white, and blue with these fun DIY 4th of July crafts and activities. Homemade, kid-friendly crafts and patriotic party favors are a great way to keep kids entertained while introducing them to a little American history. From a DIY confetti cannon to a homemade piñata, here are five fun 4th of July crafts and activities for kids that are a total blast!

4 mortgage truths that may surprise you

1. 4th Of July DIY Confetti Cannon

This DIY confetti cannon is perfect for a 4th of July parade. First, have your child decorate a toilet paper roll with any patriotic trimmings. Next, tie a knot at the bottom of a latex balloon, and cut off the top. Wrap the top part of the balloon over one end of the toilet paper roll. Secure the balloon with sparkly novelty tape, then have your child fill the other end of the toilet paper roll with red, white, and blue confetti. To launch the mini, makeshift cannon, have your child gently pull back the knot at the bottom of the balloon and quickly let it go so the confetti can take flight.

2. 4th Of July DIY Star-Spangled Sensory Bin

Create a 4th of July spectacle in a box with this patriotic sensory bin. Start by filling a plastic bin with ice cubes. Next, spray red and blue food coloring all over the ice, followed by a generous amount of baking soda. Finally, fill a clear squeeze bottle with white vinegar for kids to spray the sensory bin’s contents and create their own fireworks show.

3. 4th Of July DIY Handprint Flag T-Shirts

Patriots can wear their hearts on their sleeves with this homemade handprint American flag t-shirt. First, lay out a basic white cotton t-shirt. Next, cover the palm of your child’s hand with blue non-toxic fabric paint, then have them press their hand down horizontally on the t-shirt to form the top left corner of the American flag. Once dry, have your child paint rows of red stripes on the right side of the handprint to complete the flag. Finally, lay out the t-shirt in a well-ventilated area, then spray it with diluted fabric paint for a fun finishing touch.

4. 4th Of July DIY Piñata

For some explosive fun, look no further than this 4th of July piñata. Start by cutting 12 same-sized circles out of empty cereal boxes. Next, measure and fold 5 sides on each cardboard circle, then tape all of the folds together to form a ball. Cover the ball in red, white, and blue streamers and secure them using spray glue. Attach ribbons and more streamers to the bottom of the piñata along with any other decorations. Finally, fill the piñata with treats before hanging it.

5. 4th Of July DIY Chalk Fireworks

Kids can create their own (totally safe) fireworks show thanks to this simple craft. First, tape a few paper star cutouts to a sheet of black construction paper. Next, have your child draw around the paper cutouts using red, white, and blue chalk. Finally, have them gently remove the paper star, then use their fingers to blend and smear the chalk to look like an actual fireworks show in the sky!
