We tried a TikTok hack for making ‘deep-fried milk’

Deep-fried milk is a popular treat all over the world.

The mega-sweet dish is served in China, Spain, India and Italy — and now, thanks to TikTok, it’s going viral in the U.S.

Buy, sell or hold? How to decide what to do with a plummeting stock

That’s thanks to creators like Tiffy Cooks (@tiffycooks), who’ve been making fried milk in their own videos.

The end result looks delicious, but the process is a little confusing. I mean, can you really fry milk?

To find out, we tried this recipe ourselves. To see what happened, watch the video above or keep reading below.

How to make deep-fried milk

Here’s what you’ll need to make this:

  • 6 cups of whole milk

  • 1 cup of cornstarch

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • Panko bread crumbs

  • Eggs

  • Vegetable oil

  • Powdered sugar

  • Sweetened condensed milk

To start, combine the milk, cornstarch and sugar by mixing them in a medium-temperature saucepan on the stove. Once it’s fully combined and thick, pour the mix into a glass dish coated with parchment paper.

Let it cool in the fridge for two hours. Once that’s done, cut the solidified milk into medium-size squares.

Heat up a large pot of vegetable oil. One by one, coat the milk slices in cornstarch, then egg wash, then bread crumbs. Finally, drop them into the hot oil and fry until they’re golden brown.

And that’s it! We served the fried milk hot, sprinkled with powdered sugar and dipped in a side of sweetened condensed milk.

This stuff was seriously delicious. It tastes like the fanciest, tastiest version of a deep-fried state fair food. The sweetness is so full and complex, and the fried texture goes perfectly with the soft, hot interior. We’d definitely recommend trying these.
