TikTokers are deeply divided over this recipe for a 'Hot Cheetos salad': 'My mouth is watering'

A recipe for a Flamin’ Hot Cheetos salad is going viral on TikTok — but does it actually taste good?

Ultimately, it depends on who you ask. The viral dish — which literally replaces lettuce with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos — seems to have started with @rxthism, a TikTok user named Ruth. In a series of viral clips, she’s prepared the simple, spicy dish.

Some TikTokers are grossed out by the meal, but others are completely transfixed.

“My mouth is watering, OMG,” one user wrote.

“This looks so good,” another wrote.

Cheetos in a salad? Needless to say, In The Know’s editors were a little skeptical. But since we’ve been wrong before on things like this, we decided to try it ourselves. To see how it went, watch the video above or keep reading.

How to make Hot Cheetos salad

Thankfully, this recipe requires just five ingredients — so if you don’t like it, at least you haven’t wasted too much time. Here’s what you need:

  • 1 bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos

  • 1 bushel of cilantro leaves

  • 1 Lemon

  • 1 whole cucumber, sliced

  • Hot sauce (Ruth recommends Tapatío)

To start, pour about half the bag of Cheetos into a giant bowl. Then add the cilantro leaves, cucumbers and a generous serving of hot sauce. Next, squeeze the lemon over the top of the salad. Toss everything together.

And that’s it. We’re not exactly sure how to eat this thing (a spoon? a fork? your hands?) but making it is pretty simple.

Our review: Is Hot Cheetos salad actually good?

Now, for what we thought would be the harder part: Actually eating this thing.

In reality, this couldn’t have been easier. From the very first bite, we were blown away. The crunchiness of the Cheetos mixes perfectly with the crispness of the cucumbers, and the lemon-hot sauce combo makes for a perfectly simple dressing.

The flavor is quite simply unbelievable. Even if you don’t love spicy stuff, it’s worth enduring the heat to try this out. On top of it all, this dish is also oddly photogenic. So get those iPhone cameras ready, too.
