Yahoo Finance Trevor Bauer says baseball's failed negotiations are driving MLB 'straight off a cliff'
The effort to restart baseball is making progress, but still remains messy as ever. The players union on Monday voted down MLB’s latest proposal, which led to the commissioner starting the process of implementing a 60-game season without players’ buy-in.
While people all around the game — from execs and players, to columnists and fans — have chosen their sides and are strictly adhering to them, one MLB All-Star is looking at the bigger picture and speaking about the damage the entire process is doing to the game.
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Trevor Bauer, ever outspoken, tweeted Monday that baseball as a whole is driving itself “straight off a cliff.” He said it would be the death of baseball if it keeps acting like it has been and that it somehow managed to make a lose-lose situation even worse.
In the past, Bauer has been very critical of commissioner Rob Manfred, and while he doesn’t call Manfred out directly this time, he’s clearly not happy.
Fans want baseball. The vast majority of players want baseball. Most owners want baseball. Seems like everyone is in agreement yet we have no agreement and no baseball. How?!

It’s absolute death for this industry to keep acting as it has been. Both sides. We’re driving the bus straight off a cliff. How is this good for anyone involved? Covid 19 already presented a lose lose lose situation and we’ve somehow found a way to make it worse. Incredible. 🤦🏻♂️

If there’s going to be a fight the time for that fight is after the ‘21 season when a new CBA is negotiated. 5 years of potential change. We’re doing irreparable damage to our industry right now over rules that last AT MOST 16 months. WTF kind of sense does that make? 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

Bauer went on to say that he has even more on his mind, but won’t say it out of respect for his fellow players.

Bauer has always been one of the more polarizing players in MLB — with some fans loving his candor and some fans rolling their eyes at his social-media antics. But you have to think what he’s saying here will resonate with the common fan.
