Tradie-turned-escort reveals lucrative salary after ditching the tools: ‘Not for everyone’

The former tradie said the job wouldn’t suit everyone and required a specific skill set.

A former tradie has revealed his impressive hourly income since changing careers, as more Aussie workers open up about exactly how much they earn.

The Aussie revealed he was earning $300-$500 per hour as a male escort after he was stopped in the streets of Brisbane and asked about his job.

He said he had been working in the industry for about 18 months after “a breakup and an epiphany” and enjoyed the freedom of the job more than his previous work as a tradie, which involved laying roof sheets.

“It’s very much suited to my personality. It is a very niche industry and it is not just for everyone,” he said in the video posted by jobs app GetAhead. “I know the money can be quite appealing but there is a specific skill set to be a high-quality escort.”

He said this included creating intimacy with people, making them feel “extremely comfortable” and making them feel good about themselves.

“The biggest thing is actually being genuine about it, which comes into that professional people skills,” he said.

When asked whether his work impacted on his relationships with people, he said it did but his partner supported his work and was “incredible”.

“In the great scheme of things, for the kind of person that I am, the direction that I’m taking my life, it’s no skin off my shoulders,” he said.

According to Talent, the average salary for an escort in Australia is $81,040 per year or $41.56 per hour. But the platform said salaries could range from $77,154 to $95,000 per year.

In comparison, the average annual wage for a tradie is $73,507, or $37.70 an hour, ranging from $64,321 per year at an entry level to $101,330 per year for more experienced workers. This doesn’t take into account overtime opportunities, with one recruitment expert recently telling Yahoo Finance that tradies could start their own businesses and potentially “retire by 50”.

Some Aussie leaders have been calling for greater pay transparency among workers. GetAhead has been posting candid interviews from mostly younger workers disclosing their pay and the realities of their jobs.

CEO and founder Sam McNamara has made it compulsory for companies to list salary expectations when advertising jobs on the platform.

“I think the question to ask is, ‘If a company is hiding people’s salaries, why is that?’” McNamara recently told Yahoo Finance. “We are headed to a point where it will be 100 per cent completely transparent, and I think it will make for a fairer workplace."
