An urgent nationwide recall has seen thousands of vehicles named after a spate of serious faults which could cause injury or death.

Product Safety Australia (PSA) issued the fresh warning yesterday which includes vehicles from Suzuki, Volvo, Kia and Jeep - totalling 21,451.

Potential issues span from seats that won't stop moving to problematic fuel pipes that could lead to a vehicle fire.

Here is a complete list of the affected vehicles and what you should do if your car is on the list.

Toyota C-HR (NGX10 and NGX50) SUV - Model Years 2019 - 2021

PSA warns the internal components of the fuel pump may wear and fracture the welded area of the fuel pump, which could lead to a fuel leak in the engine compartment.

PSA said drivers may be alerted to this happening by smelling fuel while driving.

“A fuel leak in the engine compartment may result in an engine bay fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders,” PSA said.

If your car is affected Toyota will contact you in writing requesting that you make an appointment at your preferred Toyota dealer to have your car inspected and if required your fuel pump will be replaced for free.

Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) - Model Years 2014-2015

PSA warns that in some vehicles the signal from the crankshaft position sensor may fail.

This may result in the engine losing power and not being able to be restarted again.

“A sudden loss of engine power increases the risk of an accident and injury or death to vehicle occupants or other road users,” PSA said.

FCA Australia will notify affected owners and consumers can take their vehicle to an authorised Chrysler Dodge and Jeep Dealer for repair, free of charge.

Kia MQ4 Sorento MPI - Model Year 2021 and Kia KA4 Carnival GDI - Model Year 2021

Owners of either of these Kis vehicles need to be alert that the fuel supply pipe may have been damaged during manufacturing, which may result in a fuel leak.

“If a fuel leak occurs, this can result in an engine compartment fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident, serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users,” PSA said.

Kia Motors Australia is contacting all known owners of affected vehicles by direct mail.

Consumers should contact their nearest Kia Motors Australia dealer to arrange for an inspection and repair of the vehicle, free of charge.

Volvo XC90 Excellence vehicles equipped with 4 seats and a rear seat control display - Model Years 2016-2020

PSA said it identified an issue with the Volvo touch display which could cause the front passenger seat to continue moving.

“If there is liquid or liquid droplets on the rear seat control display, the system may perceive this as a constant touch,” PSA said.

“If this occurs when the front passenger seat control is selected, the front passenger seat may be moved forward or backwards until it reaches its end position. This may result in injury to vehicle occupants.”

Volvo will contact affected owners in writing to request that owners make an appointment to have the vehicle repaired.

Suzuki Jimny A6G415 - Model Year 2018

Due to an incorrect manufacturing process, a component within the fuel pump of these vehicles could swell, causing the fuel pump to become inoperative.

“If the fuel pump malfunctions, the engine could stall while driving. This may increase the risk of an accident, resulting in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users,” PSA said.

Consumers are being told to be aware that the door harness wires on both the driver and passenger doors could be damaged or cut by the repeated motion of opening or closing the doors.

“If the wires are cut or damaged, this may cause the curtain and side airbags to not deploy correctly,” PSA said.

PSA said in the event of an accident, this could increase the risk of serious injury or death.

Affected owners will be contacted directly and should contact their nearest authorised Suzuki dealer service department to arrange for inspection and repair.

Jeep Cherokee (KL) - Model Year 2021

PSA said the transmission oil cooler (TOC) hose may have been manufactured with incorrectly cured rubber. This rubber can rupture, allowing transmission fluid to leak.

Transmission fluid leaking from a TOC hose could cause a fire if it makes contact with a source of ignition.

“A vehicle fire may increase the risk of injury or death of vehicle occupants and/or bystanders,” PSA said.
