Torrential rain, wind, hail force delay of Browns-Texans game (video)

Football usually carries on no matter the weather, but sometimes it’s just too much.

That was the case in Cleveland on Sunday. A violent storm swept through the city just as the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans were set to kick off, forcing the NFL to delay the scheduled 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

Torrential rain, hail and high winds forced players into the locker rooms.

Downpour drenches Cleveland

Several reporters from the press box captured video of the downpour, which prompted a shelter-in-place advisory for fans in the stands. The national anthem moved forward.

Some fans stuck it out — at least through the anthem.

The storm was short-lived, clearing after a brief delay that pushed kickoff back to 1:39 p.m. And fans fearing dreary weather for the game were instead treated with clear blue skies after the storm abated.

The wet field appeared to make an impact as both offenses struggled to score in a 10-7 Cleveland win. The Browns secured the win by keeping the ball on the ground in a 231-yard rushing effort. Nick Chubb led the way with 126 yards and the game’s only touchdown.
