Yahoo Finance Tom Brady addresses struggles with deep ball: 'It's definitely something we’ve got to hit'
In his 21st year in the NFL, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady hasn’t lost much. Through 10 games, Brady has thrown 23 touchdowns against seven interceptions and appears set to turn in yet another excellent season.
But that doesn’t mean his game has been perfect. Brady acknowledged Friday that the deep ball has been a major problem lately, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
“It’s definitely something we’ve got to hit,” Brady said Friday. “Our guys are doing a great job getting down the field and it’s my job to find them and hit them. You know, if you don’t hit them, they’re just long foul balls and we had a few of those last game.”
The Times notes Brady, 43, has gone just 1-of-13 on balls that have traveled 20 or more yards over the past three games. That’s a problem, especially considering Mike Evans has made a living running deep routes.
Despite Brady’s struggles, the Bucs have still gone 2-1 over that period. The team’s only loss was a big one, however, as the Bucs were blown out 38-3 by the New Orleans Saints in Week 9.
Can the Bucs get deep ball going against Rams?
The Bucs could have a difficult time righting their deep ball woes against the Rams. Brady admitted the Rams have a top-10 defense in every category, and called Aaron Donald “an incredible player.”
“Aaron Donald is as good as there is to probably have ever played in the National Football League on the defensive line. He’s an incredible player. Explosive, quick, powerful. It’s amazing the production he has even when people are double-teaming him, triple-teaming him. He never lets down. He’s a hard-working guy. You can tell football means a lot to him. But he really sparks that whole defense.”
Donald has nine sacks in nine games, and could force the Bucs to utilize a short passing game if he puts pressure on Brady early.
Tom Brady isn’t concerned about playing at night
While much has been made about Brady’s recent struggles during night games, the quarterback is not concerned about playing the Rams on “Monday Night Football.” The Bucs held a night practice Friday in an attempt to prepare the team for playing another late game. The Bucs have gone 1-2 in prime time games this season.
Brady downplayed the team’s late practice, saying he’s practiced at all times of the day throughout his career.
