Tim Allen shares idea for “Toy Story 5, ”says Disney has reached out to him and Tom Hanks about sequel

Tim Allen shares idea for “Toy Story 5, ”says Disney has reached out to him and Tom Hanks about sequel

"The writer that's doing it wrote one of the better ones and he said, 'If I didn’t get this right, I wouldn't do it.'"

Buzz Lightyear to Star Command: Tim Allen has shared an exciting update on Toy Story 5.

The actor, who has voiced everyone’s favorite space ranger in the past four Toy Story films, confirmed Disney CEO Bob Iger's sequel announcement earlier this year and revealed that the company has contacted him and Tom Hanks about bringing Buzz and Woody back to the big screen.

"Bob Iger, head of Disney, said it was on," Allen said on Tuesday's episode of The Tonight Show. “He actually said it was going to happen. They have reached out to Tom and I to reprise the roles. They're not saying anything about it."

But Allen expressed his hesitancy about returning to the series.

"For people like me, it’s just like — I’m a sci-fi buff. You wonder if four was too many, is five too much?" he asked. However, he added, "According to the scuttlebutts, the writer that's doing it wrote one of the better ones and he said, 'If I didn't get this right, I wouldn’t do it.' So it could be a very, very interesting way to reunite it."

If the pair do reprise their roles, Buzz and Woody will need to find their way back to one another because, you might recall, Woody traded Bonnie's home for the carnival to remain with Bo Peep (Annie Potts) at the end of Toy Story 4.

Thankfully, Allen has also revealed his idea for how the pals could reunite with a little help from their first human owner, Andy (John Morris).

Said Allen in a recent interview with That Movie Dweeb: "I don't know if this is where the story is going, but what if the whole story was through Andy as an adult? [He] has children, and they just happen to be online, and the kid goes, 'Have you ever seen this toy?' and Andy sees that Buzz has got a hand missing and they're selling these vintage toys, and Andy goes and gathers all the toys up. He has to go out and find each one of them and put them back together, bring them back to his house, and start the whole thing over again with his son."

He continued, "...It's all through Andy's eyes because we [the toys] made his life, and now he's returning that favor."
