Woman stuns social media with ‘life-changing’ hack for making vegetables last longer: ‘My jaw dropped’

If you’ve ever wondered how to keep vegetables fresh, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

In fact, there are seemingly countless TikTok users who had the same exact problem — at least, until they saw Alesha Ruddenklau’s life hack video.

The TikToker’s hack shows how she keeps vegetables fresh in the refrigerator, even after they’ve started to brown and wilt. Her process, which she demonstrates with a floret of broccoli, is simple.

In the clip, Ruddenklau shows off a browning piece of broccoli in her fridge. To “fix” it, she cuts a small chunk off the bottom of the vegetable’s stalk. Then, she places the entire floret in a cup of water and puts it back in the fridge.

“Good as new!” Ruddenklau captioned her video.

Ruddenklau’s credit, the broccoli does look both greener and fresher after she’s left it in water. Many users said the tactic was “life-changing.”

“My jaw dropped,” one user wrote.

“Seriously? I mean seriously? This should be on tonight’s news,” another added.

“You learn something new every day,” another wrote.

In the video’s comments, some users claimed the hack works with almost any kind of fresh veggie. The trick makes sense, too, considering that an easy way to keep flowers alive involves cutting the stems and of course, keeping them in water.

Ruddenklau shared her advice on how to keep vegetables fresh as part of a current TikTok trend, in which users are revealing the life hacks that have become an “unconscious standard practice” in their lives. In recent weeks, TikTokers have also shared their tricks for folding tortillas, re-sealing frozen food bags and separating egg whites.
