You might be feeling a bit blue since American Idol's season finale in May marked the end of season 4 on ABC. But fear not, Idol fans: the show has been officially renewed for season 5 (the show's 20th season overall).

Prior to this year's season finale — which resulted in Chayce Beckham being crowned the champion — ABC announced that the search for the next big superstar will continue in 2022. That said, Deadline reports that show runner Trish Kinane is stepping down from her position and executive producer Megan Michaels Wolflick will take her place.

What does that mean for the show? Right now, it's unclear. But often when show runners are switched and/or replaced, the show will look a bit different when it returns. Curious to know what the next season of American Idol could look like? We've got key season 5 details below:

Right now, it's too soon to say when American Idol season 5 will premiere on ABC. But based on the premiere date of the last two seasons, we'd say there's a good chance the competition show will come out sometime in mid-February of 2022. Of course, when we have a set date confirmed we will be sure to share it.

Per a press release, judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry will definitely be back for the fifth season of American Idol. Likewise, Ryan Seacrest will return as the show's host.

"Luke, Katy, Lionel and Ryan are music and industry icons that have become synonymous with Idol on ABC,” said Rob Mills, executive vice president, Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment, Walt Disney Television. "Their star power is unmatched, and their support is a gift to our contestants that have deeply benefited from their wisdom over the past four seasons — and they’re ready to do it again. As we begin a momentous season, I think it’s safe to say this dream team has officially cemented their legacy on Idol."

Believe it or not, producers are already in search of the next American Idol. On the American Idol audition website, Idol hopefuls are being asked to reserve a spot for in-person virtual "Idol Across America" auditions or to submit their online video auditions. Auditions are happening across the country, and you can visit here for more information.

Remember, to be eligible for American Idol, you "must be born on or between June 2, 1992 and September 15, 2006."

How can I watch and stream the new season of American Idol?

Assuming ABC keeps American Idol in its normal time slot when the show comes back, viewers can expect to be able to tune into ABC on Sunday and Monday nights to watch new episodes at 8 p.m. ET. Likewise, new episodes of American Idol are usually available the next day on ABC.com.

Those who prefer to watch American Idol on the go can download the ABC app on select iOS, Android, Amazon, Apple TV, Samsung, and Google Chromecast devices. American Idol is also available for Hulu, fuboTV or Youtube TV subscribers.
