The Rockets wished Russell Westbrook a happy birthday and everyone thought it was awkward

Hot on the heels of a report that Russell Westbrook is concerned about the direction of the Houston Rockets, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that Westbrook is way, way more than concerned. In fact, he apparently wants out of Houston as soon as possible.

The Rockets traded for Westbrook last year, and they gave up a lot to bring him to Houston. They went from honeymoon to impending divorce is the span of just one season. Awkward!

Even more awkward? Thursday is Westbrook’s 32nd birthday, and the team Twitter account sent out a happy birthday tweet less than 24 hours after it was leaked that he wants to be traded.

‘This is shade, right?’

Twitter loves nothing more than awkwardness and schadenfreude, and they did not miss a beat with their replies and quote tweets.

It certainly seems like the Rockets and Westbrook are headed for a messy breakup or an unhappy season together. Either way, Twitter will enjoy all the awkwardness the situation provides. Rubbernecking NBA drama is the best way to spend the offseason.
