The cheapest time to book your next Australian holiday

March and May are the cheapest times to travel interstate this year, while December is the most expensive.
According to new data from KAYAK, you can save around 28 per cent by flying interstate in March, with the average return economy ticket sitting at $350. That’s a saving of around $36, on average, compared to travelling in other months.
For hotel stays though, the cheapest month is May and travellers can save a whopping 50 per cent compared to annual prices. The average cost of a hotel stay in May is currently $221 per night.

Unsurprisingly, December is the most expensive month for both flights and accommodation, with return flights currently $487 and hotels currently $390 per night, on average.
Domestic travel could be a good option for Aussies who are keen for an adventure, but don’t want to break the bank on an international trip.
“The average international flight price has increased around a steep 51 per cent versus 2019, whereas domestic flight prices increased only half this rate by about 24 per cent,” KAYAK brand director Nicola Carmichael said.
