Host of the Year
The judges described Alstonvale’s Carla Dawes as going “above and beyond” for guests at her Olinda Cottage, which boasts sweeping views of the northern NSW hinterland.
Dawes cooks a homemade breakfast for guests each morning and leaves them treats like chocolate, freshly baked sourdough and local muesli so guests can “slow down and recharge”.
Most Unique Stay
The Winged House sits over a cliff at Table Cape on Tasmania’s north coast. Designed by Australian artist and architect Richard Goodwin, the property features a monoplane wing installed as the roof.
Guests can enjoy 180-degree seascape views. The house has drawn guests from all over the world for its sculptural quality, interiors and dramatic views.
Best Nature Stay
The Container is nestled in Lilydale, 20 minutes from Launceston and in the middle of Tamar Valley. The property is built from an up-cycled shipping container and is solar and hydro powered.
“Nature is your host, guests won’t meet us but expect a visit from the kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and chooks,” hosts Susie and Gordon said of the property.
Best New Host
The Little Seed’s hosts, Peter and Charlie, pride themselves on offering a memorable and welcoming stay for guests – from the personal welcome note to homemade shortbreads and a warm fire on cold days.
The luxury self-contained studio is set on 15 acres of bush property in Tasmania’s Huon Valley. Guests can relax in nature and spot wildlife like wallabies and black cockatoos.
Best Designed Stay
Coombs Hill Barn is a restored and rebuilt 160-year-old American Barn overlooking the Delatite Valley in Merrijig, Victoria.
